Friday Support

Support group if you don’t have one FIND ONE!!!

I never thought I would need a support group for breastfeeding. It’s the natural way we are supposed to feed our babies so why would I need help doing that?

Oh WOW, was I ever wrong!  I honestly believe the only way we made it through those early weeks was knowing those ladies were there for me. I didn’t know any of them, but from the first visit they made me feel totally NORMAL!

“Problems” turned out to be normal baby behavior.
For those sleepless nights they had tips for coping.
Through all our troubles they knew we would make it! (read about it here & here)

That weekly dose of positive encouragement is all I need to keep going when things get tough!

Today we talked mostly about starting solids, teething, and sleep!  If you get 5 moms & babies in one room the conversations are endless.  There’s no LLL within 100 miles, but every week we meet up in the office of our International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).

Today I was thinking about the first meeting I went to. My husband had to talk me into going!  I didn’t want to go.  I was sleep deprived, in pain, and frustrated.  The last thing I wanted to do was go hang out with a bunch of moms who had it all figured out.  From the moment I walked in the door my perspective on nursing changed.  I could see how our nursing relationship would change as my baby got older.  It wasn’t going to ALWAYS be so darn awkward, time consuming, or uncomfortable.

A little support can go a long way!  Thank you to those nursing moms who have cheered me on.

Where did you find your support?   I’d love to hear about it.
